Sigma Pi Elections 2nd Counselor Speech
Spring 2020
My election speech is the second example that reflects a deep engagement in a different discourse community. In the fall of 2020, I was nominated to run for vice president of my fraternity. As a part of my campaign, I wrote a speech to capture my values as a candidate as well as what I would strive to do, if elected. My vice president speech was the second election speech that I wrote as a brother; the first one was in the fall of my freshman year right after I was initiated into the brotherhood.
Repurposing Assignment

This piece comes from an assignment in my Interdisciplinary Writing minor capstone course (WRI 350), wherein we were supposed to "repurpose" one of our previous texts to another audience/genre to exercise our genre flexibility. I took piece that I wrote in WRI 341 about the history of bald eagles and their meaning to our country, and then I transformed it into an op-ed that serves as a call to action for the United States to reflect on the meaning behind a bald eagle and it’s symbol meaning to the United States.
